Fabrique Fantastique: beyond wonder

Read out loud
30 Dec 2024# min read

Fabrique Fantastique creates immersive stories through animation, live experiences, and merchandise. With a unique 360-degree approach to IP development, they bring characters to life beyond the screen. Supported by PMV and backed by the EIF through InvestEU, they continue to expand their creative universe.

360-view

Founded in 2014 and based in Lier, in the Flemish part of Belgium, Fabrique Fantastique develops, produces, licenses, and operates high-quality intellectual properties (IP) and brands globally. In practice, that means that they do everything from the writing of a story, through to its production, creation (e.g. animation) and then also bringing it to life in an inclusive way. “We take a 360-view on creating intellectual property (IP),” he explains, “and I think that’s our key differentiator.” Not only does Fabrique Fantastique produce IP, but they also introduce additional products closely linked to the stories it tells.

Bringing stories to life

“We really want to bring our characters to life, not only at the B2B level, but also B2C, engaging with the audience by developing live shows, podcasts, clothing, colouring books, comics, and other forms of merchandise,” Tim says. Fabrique Fantastique has produced successful animation series such as Sir Mouse and Interstellar Ella, addressing meaningful educational themes such as inclusion, ecology, and respect. Sir Mouse challenges traditional gender norms, while Interstellar Ella emphasises STEM education and exploration for children.

Our focus is on creating a unique universe filled with wonder and fantasy, grounded in strong storytelling and featuring authentic characters, meaningful for a broad audience. ”

- Tim Verschure, Chief Commercial Officer of Fabrique Fantastique

Fuelling growth

But it’s not all plain sailing, as companies in the cultural and creative sectors have a very particular business model that requires a special type of financing. “Our biggest issue is related to cashflow dips. The revenue only comes right at the end of the project, but we have costs throughout. We need to produce quality, maintain the budget and get the right people on board from the start,” Tim explains. To address these cashflow issues, Fabrique Fantastique sought an EU-guaranteed loan through PMV, backed by the EIF, allowing the company to manage the fluctuations and look ahead. “We’re currently working on four different projects, and our aim is to really grow the merchandising and ‘bringing to life’ part of our business so that’s it becomes an important part of our revenue stream.”
