The EIF’s headquarters are in the heart of Europe – we are in Luxembourg alongside other European institutions and the European Investment Bank with several regional and local offices closer to our network of financial intermediaries, partners and entrepreneurs. Our structure

The EIF employs professionals across 5 offices - functional areas contributing to its mission to support SMEs. These are:

Finance and Strategy Office: financial control and strategy
General Secretariat: legal services, governance, audit and institutional affairs, institutional relations
Investment Office: debt transactions (guarantees, securitisation and inclusive finance), equity investments, client services, mandate origination and relationship management, mandate design and product development, and central front office services
Risk Office: compliance and nonfinancial risk, capital management and financial risk, transaction and mandate risk, portfolio risk management and surveillance
People Office: talent management, performance, talent acquisition, learning and development, as well as HR operations and administration

Entry-level and professional development opportunities, offered through early career and traineeship programs, are spread across all the job streams, allowing young professionals to get experience across all the different areas.

Staff rules, salaries and benefits

The EIF offers a competitive employment and remuneration package composed of base salary, variable remuneration, benefits as well as health and pension schemes. Additionally, EIF offers flexible work arrangements in a modern and hybrid environment. Compensation and benefits are explained fully during the recruitment process and benefits are detailed in the Staff Regulations, which form an integral part of the employment contract.

Life in Luxembourg

Multicultural

Luxembourg hosts citizens from more than 170 nationalities - the highest share of non-national citizens of all EU. Over the years Luxembourg has become a vibrant capital city with a multilingual population. Almost everyone speaks English, French, or German – and all public administration services are available in these languages.

Central

Luxembourg is situated right in the heart of Europe bordering France, Germany, and Belgium. Its small size allows to easily travel to neighbouring countries. So on a weekend you might visit a museum in Belgium, take a wine tasting along the Moselle river, explore a national park in France, or go shopping in Germany. You’ll never be bored!

Luxembourg City, with lots of greenery and easy transport services, offers all facilities you would expect to find in a capital - within arm’s reach. The city centre is compact: all parks, shopping facilities, museums and restaurants are within walking distance. In only 20 minutes, you can travel from one side of the town to the other.

Safe

Personal safety is one of Luxembourg’s strong suits. Most inhabitants are happy with their lives in Luxembourg, and this could be explained by the high security and relatively low crime rates. People in Luxembourg are generally seen as friendly and attentive. A welcoming home for expats and families from all over the world – that’s safe to say!

Green

Looking for nature? 25% of the city area consists of greener, with over 200 recreational spaces and numerous public parks. But Luxembourg has it all: parks, forests, and hiking trails. There are hundreds of hidden treasures for you to explore. Discover the Müllerthal trail or visit one of the old castles around. Sounds fun, right?

Sustainable

Luxembourg became the first country in the world to offer free public transport to citizens and visitors. Save money and avoid rush-hour traffic each day and travel to work by train, tram, or bus – it’s completely free of charge. Or choose the Vel’OH bike sharing service and have a nice ride: EIF staff members get a free subscription. Isn't that amazing?

Progressive

In view of its multinational population, Luxembourg offers quality education and children get familiar with multiple languages. Modelled after the French system, it consists of fundamental education (pre- and primary school), secondary, and higher education. There are also public international schools as well as other private ones.

Diversity and inclusion

Among the first European organisations, the EIF has obtained the EDGE Assess certification in March 2022. During this process we reinforced our commitment to regularly evaluate our internal policies related to diversity and inclusion.
